Menarche

Menarche is the first period

Picture
This is one of the major rites of passage in the life of a woman.

At Menarche, we are looking to be initiated into the Women's Mysteries, we want to understand what our body can do, even beyond the physical manifestations of ovulating and bleeding. We are very receptive about information and messages, sometimes untold, about our bodies and its processes. What happens for us at Menarche can have a profound effect on how we perceive ourselves and our new place within society.

When you start menstruating, you are in the spring of your womanhood, awakening, blossoming, rising.
This is why this phase in a woman's life is associated with the spring, the waxing moon and the early morning. The life phases (Maiden, Mother, Maga, Crone), the seasons, moon phases and many other cycles also appear within the menstrual cycle.

Girl's circle

A$50.00

This circle is an introduction to Menarche for a group of girls approaching the age of their first period and their mothers. It is to be booked as a group.

Having other girls with whom we feel comfortable discussing our periods, and who have the same interest in the sacredness of our body, can go a long way to promote confidence, good self-care habits and sisterhood.

The girls are guided by the mother and elder women through a light-hearted yet sacred circle.

Menarche ceremony

A$120.00

Being part of a Menarche ceremony initiates young women and their chosen mentors into the gifts of their cycles.

It allows young women to step proudly into their power.

They acquire knowledge about self-care, physical, mental and spiritual, so they can grow with their cycle and make informed decisions about their own bodies.

I work with young women and their families to create a circle of mentors, who will represent the girl's community and guides. Ideally the chosen women will be able to positively support her.

We work around three parts:

- saying farewell to the Girl, where we spoil the young women like a little girl one last time and learn songs and stories that will initiate her into the secrets of her cycle;

- a time of isolation, for the girl to create her own sun-catcher, reflect and prepare herself to rejoin the group as a Woman, with new clothes on;

- welcoming the Woman, when we crown the new Woman, teaches her how to care for herself during her cycle and start creating her pack of menstrual pads.

Ways to celebrate

Picture
Although Aurore Ceremony offers hampers and ceremonies, you can craft your own celebration easily. Here are some suggestions:
- A special women's night: go out to the restaurant, the cinema, or anywhere special and unusual, as long as you remember to place her pleasure in the center.
Ideally, spend some time talking to her about what's to come and how to care for herself.
Even better if you can take a few other women, family and friends along with you. It's important to start our journey seeing other women as support rather than competition.

- Create your own hamper: you're likely to have a few years ahead of you to prepare. Select special objects, meaningful or useful, that you look forward to giving to her on the day: heat pack, crystal, a letter you write... Remember to chose natural products that are unlikely to contain endocrine disruptors.

- Have a pamper day, just you and her: go to the spa, or have a self-care day at home. Self-care for women is critical, especially around moon-time.

Things to know

Picture
Although Menarche ceremonies used to be very common and are still known in many cultures, Western society has a long history of erasing the powerful practices of women. Sacred rites and circles are not very common. It is useful to know that, around these events, the energy and people present weave their own magic. It is important to be aware that things within us change the ritual, as well as the ritual can awaken and shift things within us that can be powerful. For these reasons we respect certain rules that help create more harmony.
The rules include:
- Come with an open mind and an open heart - be ready to learn.
-Withhold judgement, don't compare - we show up in sisterhood.
- We are not present to be saved or healed, although these things can happen in the course of the ritual. We all come as queens in equality.
-Show up for the young woman being celebrated. Celebrate her and each others, witness, support and be present.
-Question your relationship and prejudices around the menstrual cycle. Many women carry shame and annoyance towards their cycles because of the society we live in. We want to re-write this for the young woman and ourselves.
